Farmiver 150mg, 200ml 2 Tabs, Albendazole Quinfamide

Generic name: Quinfamide-albendazole.
Dosage form and formulation: Each 1 mL of suspension contains: Quinfamide 10 mg, 20 mg albendazole. Vehicle qs 1 mL. Each 10 mL contains Quinfamide Suspension / Albendazole (100 mg / 200 mg)

Therapeutic indications: FARMIVER is indicated in acute intestinal amebiasis and amebic dysentery caused by Entamoeba histolytica, Giardiasis caused by Giardia intestinalis (lamblia), and is also an effective anthelmintic against nematodes and tapeworms indicated for the treatment of Enterobium vermicularis, Ascaris lumbricoides and Strongyloides stercoralis . Necator americanus, Ancylostoma duodenale, Trichuris trichiura, Taenia saginata, Taenia solium and Hymenolepis nana.

Pharmacokinetics: The Quinfamide active against Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites, located in the light and intestinal wall. It is used exclusively by the oral route. The Quinfamide is diclo-acetilquinolinol of antiamibiana action in the intestinal lumen, as it is not absorbed; the recommended dose is 4.3 mg / kg in children and adults of 300 mg, for a single day of treatment.

Causes minimal adverse effects because it is a luminal antiamoebic, which is not absorbed, and therefore the adverse events are limited to the gastrointestinal area, which are generally not relevant. Its effectiveness antiamibiana is around 90%. The Quinfamide remains in the intestine for 24-72 hours. After 24 hours the Quinfamide is eliminated by the kidneys (50%) and faeces (50%). Albendazole is poorly absorbed in the digestive tract, but rapidly undergoes extensive first pass metabolism. Its main metabolite, albendazole sulfoxide has anthelmintic activity and plasma half-life of about 8.5 h. Albendazole sulfoxide is widely distributed in the body, including the bile and CSF. It binds approximately 70% bound to plasma proteins. Albendazole sulfoxide is excreted in bile and only a small amount is excreted in the urine.

Benzimidazoles cause many biochemical changes in sensitive nematodes, for example, inhibition of mitochondrial fumarate reductase, decreased glucose transport and uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation. However there is substantial evidence that the primary action of them involves the inhibition of microtubule polymerization by binding to tubulin. The selective toxicity of these compounds depends on the specific and very hungry with the parasite tubulin binding occurs with concentrations well below those required for binding to mammalian proteins.

Contraindications: FARMIVER is contraindicated in patients with allergy to any component of the formula, patients with extraintestinal amebiasis in women who suspect they are pregnant and breastfeeding. And patients with hepatic impairment should be treated with reduced doses or refrain from using them.

Precautions: Not recommended in patients with extraintestinal amebiasis, or pregnant or nursing women.

Restrictions on use during pregnancy and lactation: About Quinfamide were no reports of safety in pregnant women and nursing mothers, therefore it is recommended to evaluate the benefit-risk management. Albendazole is teratogenic in some animal species, and therefore is contraindicated in pregnant or possibly pregnant. They also believe that women of childbearing age should use effective contraception, nonhormonal during albendazole treatment and for one month after finalizing. Should evaluate the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Is not known whether albendazole or its metabolites are excreted in human milk.

Adverse Reactions: The most side effects associated with the use of Quinfamide-Albendazole consist mainly nausea headache, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea and rarely dizziness.

Drug Interactions: In a study carried out in 8 patients receiving concomitant treatment with dexamethasone has been observed that the plasma concentration of the active metabolite of albendazole (albendazole sulfoxide) increased approximately 50%.

The plasma concentration of albendazole sulfoxide also increases also with the simultaneous administration of praziquantel, although there are doubts about the practical consequences of this fact. It has been observed that the concentration increases albendazole sulfoxide bile and hydatid cyst fluid with the concomitant administration of cimetidine, which may increase drug efficacy in the treatment of hydatid disease.

Abnormalities in laboratory test results: There are no reported laboratory parameters to establish a causal relationship to Quinfamide / albendazole.

Precautions regarding effects of carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, teratogenicity and fertility: A date has not been found quinfamide reports of carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, teratogenicity and fertility. Albendazole is teratogenic in some animal species, such is contraindicated in pregnant or possibly pregnant. Patients with hepatic impairment should be treated with reduced doses or refrain from using them.

Dosage and administration: Route of administration: Oral. Dosage: Children 2 to 12 years: 10 mL Suspension / single dose. The dose for children is 200 mg and 100 mg of albendazole Quinfamide. Your doctor may prescribe the dosage 3 days or more after the first treatment if considered.

Manifestations and management of overdose or accidental ingestion: So far no reported overdose or accidental ingestion, but in such case must be managed according to the patient presenting symptom picture.
